human rights day

NCJWA always commemorates Founder's Day together with Human Rights Day because it Human Rights Day falls in the same week as Dr Fanny Reading's birthday.

On December 9, 2013, the Victoria Division of NCJWA marked this special day with a meeting about Women's Rights and Human Rights around the world. The presentations covered the issues facing Agunot (chained Jewish women), Gendercide in India and China, challenges surrounding girls' education in Pakistan (with a focus on Malala Yousafzai), the work of Rene Cassin, the Nobel Prize winner responsible for the first draft of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the late Eva Joel, founder and dedicated advocate of NCJWA.

On the same day, the NSW Division of NCJWA held a screening of the documentary film "Women Unchained", about the importance of signing pre-nuptial agreements to avoid Agunah situations. This was followed by a Q&A discussion with Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence from Sydney's Great Synagogue.
