ICJW President and Vice Presidents

Mirjam Cahn and Irene Scheiner explain how the Swiss Union of Jewish Women’s Organizations plays an active role insupporting Jewish women, strengthening communities, and representing the interests of its affiliates throughout Switzerland.

“Our work extends beyond our own organization. We actively participate in a number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and engage in political discussions and parliamentary processes whenever issues affecting women, families, or the Jewish community require our voice. We believe that meaningful representation helps ensure that the concerns and values of our members are heard.

“Across Switzerland, our affiliates are making a real difference in their local communities. Their members stand in unwavering support of Israel and express this commitment through a variety of initiatives and activities. At the same time, they dedicate countless hours to caring for older and vulnerable members of the community, supporting those who are ill, assisting young families, and helping to maintain childcare services that provide a welcoming environment for children and peace of mind for parents.

“Like many Jewish communities around the world, we remain deeply concerned about the rise in antisemitism. We continue to monitor developments, particularly in the French-speaking regions of Switzerland, and work closely with the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities to coordinate our response and strengthen our collective efforts.

“We are especially proud that our own Irene Scheiner has been elected as one of the three Vice Presidents of ICJW (shown in our photo second from the left, with Tania de Levy, President Debbie Wasserman and Lilian Bosboom). Her appointment is both an honour for our organization and a reflection of Switzerland’s ongoing contribution to the international Jewish women’s community.

“As a Presidential Committee, we remain committed to working together with energy, purpose, and a shared vision. Through ongoing collaboration with leading Swiss women’s organizations, we continue to build strong partnerships, advocate for issues that matter, and support Jewish women and families across the country.”
