Cafe Velimud in the Succah in Panama

The Sisterhood of Kol Shearith Israel (KSI) in Hermandad, Panama, organizes activities throughout the year that enrich the spirit, promote inclusion, and celebrate our shared heritage, inviting all of us to participate with joy and purpose.

Among these activities, we host several luncheons a year for people with visual impairments at the Amelia de Castro School of the Salvation Army, a school founded by members of our sisterhood.

Our Café VeLimud program takes place monthly, guided by Morá Ruthy. It is a space to explore Jewish life through the exchange of personal experiences, where we share laughter and reflections, strengthening our bonds as women united by faith and tradition. (Our photo above shows the Café VeLimud program in the Succah last Succot.)

Before Pesach, we prepared the charoset and matzah balls for the community Passover Seder, an event also organized by the Sisterhood. The community Rosh Hashanah dinnerwas organized in the Richie Toledano Hall of the Community Center. Additionally, educational and recreational activities such as knitting afternoons, games, cooking classes, and afternoon teas were coordinated. We also prepared the Tu Bishvat Sederand made Hamantaschen (Oznei Haman) in workshops to celebrate Purim.

One of our standout community projects is Freshly Baked Challot at Your Doorstep – a service that allows all members to receive their Shabbat challah every Friday, baked right in our community center.

We are proud to announce the launch of our cookbook, The Table That Unites Us : 150 Years of Flavor and Tradition. This book was created in memory of our beloved member Patricia Maduro Z”L; it features recipes from all the members of the Sisterhood and commemorates the 150th anniversary of our Synagogue, Kol Shearith Israel.
